iPlay off to a Great Start
Surrey Teams Playing Great Lacrosse
Hi Players and Parents,
Well the season is now officially up and running with all Saturday teams into the home and away fixture and iPlay off to a great start last Friday evening.
iPlay
On Friday we saw just over forty players line up for the first iPlay of the season. We had four teams coached by Blair Pepperell, Max Pfeifer, Alex Farley and Adam Waite. Umpires were Tim, Georgia, Hayley and Nazir. It is wonderful to see Tim, Georgia & Nazir move into a supporting role in the club as they are part of the original iPlay players who began this program four years ago and helped make it the success it is today.
It was wonderful seeing the old faces return, a bit older and a bit wiser. And the new faces ready to roll up their sleeves and show just what great skills they have.
As for the games, some entertaining lacrosse ensured, with old players mixing it and being challenged by new players. There is plenty of talent out there and we look forward to iPlay on Friday evenings being the beginning of many successful Lacrosse careers.
My thanks go to the parents for working the BBQ & Canteen and helping to take in all the equipment. Please keep up the good work and more importantly supporting your children. We will be canvassing people to nominate for a roster during this week’s iPlay.
See you all again at 6.00 pm this Friday. I should have a fixture ready for the remainder of the iPlay season.
It was a great evening, people catching up, meeting new families for the first time and great weather. What more could we have wanted.
Under 12’s
The Under 12’s had a win against Caulfield in their first home and away game of the year. The mix of old and new players looks like making us a “lethal combination” in season 2013. Hayley and Josh are coaching the side, with Josh doubling up on the Umpiring as well. A bit more on the players next week but I must make one exception in Blake Toomey, a three season veteran, who scored 5 on Saturday in a very strong display. Well done Blake.
This week the Under12’s play Malvern Black at Surrey for our first home game of the season. It’s great to see Junior Lacrosse returning to Surrey’s ground. Please be at the ground at 9.00am and parents it would be great if you could give a hand with the ground set up.
Under 14 Boys
This year we have joined forces with Moreland and we felt “flush with success” after a successful game against last year’s Premiers Footscray. Our boys shone, with new player Tom Ciszewski making his debut. We were saddened to hear that Sam Ginsberg will miss about half the season with a cracked elbow. We wish him well for a speedy and successful recovery and hope to see him back on the track in the second half of the season.
We came down to earth with a “thud” last week though. We played Williamstown and copped a Lacrosse lesson in the first quarter. To the players credit they regrouped and stayed with them for the remainder of the game. This week we welcome the Moreland players to the club for training and with more and more opportunity to play together I feel that the team will become more familiar with each other and become a strong playing unit and once again play finals. In the mean time they are a terrific group of players, eager to play good Lacrosse. Tom Ciszewski scored his first goal last week and Darcy Mim stole the show when thrown into midfield. As usual Tim Graham slayed them in the face off and scored a couple of beauties
This week we play Caulfield at Moreland, please be ready to play at 9.00 am as we begin play at 9.30 am sharp.
Under 15 Girls
This team of talented individuals are now a team to be reckoned with. Coached by Hayley, managed by Jacinta they are enjoying their Lacrosse with their Camberwell teammates. They have a win and a loss and this week they have a bye. More on the Under 15 Girls next week.
School Clinics: Thank you Graeme & Hayley
My thanks go to Graeme Fox and Hayley Carlson for all the time and energy they spent each week for eight weeks running After School Lacrosse clinics at Wattle Park Primary, Mont Albert Primary and Laburnum Primary. All three schools have sent new members to the iPlay program and the Saturday morning Under 12 team. It is these clinics that bring most of our new players each year and without the likes of Hayley, Graeme and others who helped us with the clinics we would not have been able to run the iPlay Friday nights and our Saturday teams.
FOXY’S Trivia Night
It’s on again this Saturday Evening 11th May at 7.30 pm. If you feel like making a table up please see Hayley, Josh or Laura at the club during the next few days. Last year we had a couple of Junior Parent tables and a great night was had by all
Cost is $10.00 per person BYO Nibbles and Drinks at bar prices
