Round 15 Game Reports

U/15 - Surrey Park / Moreland v Malvern

Well excitement was in the air on Saturday morning, our first game using the new clubrooms and in Surrey strip, not to mention hot off a win last week.

The team was eager to impress and we were able to regain the services of Dylan for this our last game of the year. Unfortunately Malvern had other ideas, they played confidently and with their system working, we seemed to be a bit overcome with the occasion and just missed our chances right throughout the game.

We got soundly trounced 31 – 1 a not to impressive score line for a team that has shown so much improvement this year.

Having said all that it has been a really successful team, players getting on from both clubs and coached really well by Michael Lovett. We have a team photo on the steps of the new pavilion that will form pride of place in the clubrooms as the first team to call it all home.

Everyone seems to be looking forward to next year and so am I.

Thank you parents for providing a scrumptious morning tea for the team and their families. It was sensational sitting up there on the decking enjoying ourselves in the sun.

I’ll have a longer season report for everyone to read on Junior Presentation Night September 5th

Finally, remember to book the baby-sitters for the "$2000 Draw night" on Saturday 30th August 2014 from 7:30pm and to bring the family to the Junior Presentation Night on Friday 5th September 2014. Both nights will be great fun and important fundraisers for your club.

U/15 Girls - Surrey Park/Camberwell v Footscray

Our under 15 girls went into the final round against ladder leader Footscray for the third time this season.  It always was going to be a difficult challenge however the girls showed some great form and put in a solid first half to be down 4-5 at half time. Footscray stepped up a notch in the second half and ran out winners  13-6.  The goal scorers were   Abbie  3 Laura 1 Zoe 1 and Louisa 1 The girls finished fifth overall and with a bit of luck their way could have played in the finals.

Notwithstanding this it has been a great season and the girls can be proud of what they achieved.

From Surrey’s perspective it was great to see newcomers Ellie, Caitlin and Mia improve through the season to become valuable players along with Zoe who has returned to the club and also improved greatly as the season progressed.

Camberwell girls Amanda, Laura, Louisa and Maeve also played a vital role and all improved as the season progressed.

Finally, remember to book the baby-sitters for the "$2000 Draw night" on Saturday 30th August 2014 from 7:30pm and to bring the family to the Junior Presentation Night on Friday 5th September 2014. Both nights will be great fun and important fundraisers for your club.

WELL DONE GIRLS!

U/11 - Surrey Park @ Lightning Round

The very last Saturday morning of season 2014 for the U11 team turned out to be a brilliant sunny morning with lots of Lacrosse and a successful end to the season with the winning of the pennant in the Crocodiles division of the under 11s Lightning Carnival.

We had entered two teams as a lot of our eligible players, who normally play up in the U13 competition, were available to us due to a BYE for our U13 side. We fielded a total of 17 players in two teams, featuring a mix of iPlay, under 11s and eligible under 13s experience. One team, Surrey Park Red, in the Sharks division, was coached by Blair Pepperell and the other team Surrey Park White, in the Crocodiles division was coached by Alex Farley. Both teams played five games each as there were six teams in each division. Both of our teams did very well.

Surrey Park Red's lost their first game to the eventual division winner, by one goal 5 - 6 right on the final whistle, drew their next two games at 5-all & 4-all and won the last two games at 5 - 2 and 4 - 2.

Surrey Park White's on the other hand won all five of their games with scores of 8 - 0, 7 - 1, 5 - 2, 6 - 3 and 5 - 2. As a result of beating all their opponents, they finished on top of their division and have been presented with a pennant as u11s division champions, which proundly hangs in the trophy cabinet of our brand new clubhouse for everyone to admire.

A fitting way to top off an amazing season for the Surrey Park u11s 2014 team. Well done boys!!!

A very big Thank You to all the coaches and parents and club officials that helped the team throughout the season.
