Round 3 Game Reports

U/15 - Surrey Park v Camberwell Storm

This week we took the field with 12 players, our best numbers this year and brimming with confidence. We had assistance from Harrison Gay and Ewan Dankesreither, coming up from our Under 13’s and Abbie McNamara and Sarah Goucher crossing over from our Under 15 girl’s side.

We were looking forward to a good showing after our baptism of fire form Malvern last week. Alas it was not to be. Camberwell played well, did the basics – catching and throwing, better than us and ran to an 11 – nil lead at quarter time and once again often our goalie, Ewan was left to defend the impossible.

Luckily we were able to regroup a bit and in the next three quarters we threw 6 to 24 goals, a better effort.

We blooded a new player in Lachlan, the “Hoover” Walshe and he acquitted himself admirably. Before too long we will see him throw his first goal, lay his first check and make his first block on a player.

Our other additions, Abbie and Harrison, lived up to their already glowing reputations. Abbie threw 3 goals, Harrison took the face off and did really well.  We hope we can catch them for a few more games over the course of the season.

I think with a few more weeks playing together as a team and getting a bit more used to the bump and the pace of the under 15’s and our side will make really strong inroads into the competition.

One thing that could not be doubted is that our side played on, heads held up and gave their best. They are a great group of players and I am proud to be coaching them.

Goals: McNamara 3, Ciszewski 2, J Basay.

U/15 Girls - Surrey Park v TBA

UNDER  15 GIRLS GET OFF TO GOOD START...

Our under 15 girls are this year combining with Camberwell and Sunday they kicked off their season in great style. Not having trained together prior to the game, the girls combined extremely well to end up drawing 12-12 against last year’s top side Newport.

Newport got the jump on Surrey/ Camberwell early in the game to be 4 -0 up but by half time the girls had fought back to be one goal up at half time 4-5. The game was tight all the way through and it was a high standard game. Surrey’s regulars in Sarah, Tayla and Abbie all put in good games and Surrey’s newcomers also contributed.

Camberwell’s girls also put in a great effort with Laura doing well and Lizzie who put her hand up to be goalie did a great job saving a number of shots.

Plans are under way to try and get the girls together to train on Friday nights at Surrey so let’s make the Camberwel l  girls feel  welcome.

U/11 - Surrey Park v Caulfield

After one win and one loss so far this season it turned out to be the turn of the draw this Saturday. It was a hard fought. fast paced and entertaining match at home against Caulfield. The final score read 10 - 10. This time we fielded a team with a couple of members on the bench. Cruz, Hunter and Julian normally play-up for the U/13 team, but took advantage of a bye to play in the under 11s team. Having members on the bench certainly helped with giving the players some rest during the game.

Surrey Park led at the end of the first quarter and at half time before having a quiet and goal-less third quarter to be one goal behind at the end of the third quarter (at 7 - 8). In the final quarter after conceding another goal and being 7 - 10 down the team rallied to score three more goals to finish the match level at 10 goals apiece. Tom and Domi shared the goal keeping duties this time. Hunter top scored with 3 goals with Cruz, Domi and Ashwin each scoring 2 goals while both Cruz and Hunter topped the assists at 3 each. Another all round performance with the remaining members Leo, Henry, Julian, Sam and Renalda also putting in a lot of effort in the mid-field and defense. The team was coached by Alex and John. Harvey Jones helped out with the refereeing duties.
