Round 1 Game Reports

U/15 Boys - Surrey Park v Mixed

This is the first Under 15 side that Surrey has fielded in more than 7-years and we were ready to play hard and give it our best. Well we were ready, we had a few bodies not able to attend due to illness, School Sport and a Camp. Luckily we had the help of our intrepid Under 13 Goalie Ewan, as well as Tayla   and Sarah from the girl’s U/15 team, both guns and ready to inflict goal damage on our opponents. We had a few “old stagers” Tim, Darcy and Jerry ready to guide the new crop of youngsters to our side in Xavier, Dylan and Mitchell into battle. They were joined by our “gun recruit” Connor Hodge,  all having trained since early in the new year waiting for this first game.

Alas the Malvern mixed team did not turn up and so we started our season with a walkover, a win but hardly a win to savour.

This was a letdown but I am sure we will regroup and be ready for the Malvern number 1 team this Saturday at the Malvern ground behind the town hall at 11.00 am on Saturday 10th May

The guys looked great in their new gear and we hope very shortly new helmets and new uniforms

U/13 - Surrey Park v Camberwell Blitz

With every Surrey Park player making their debut playing in protective gear, it took until the second quarter for the team to become comfortable with the gear and the extra physicality of playing at U/13 level. By this time, the much larger and physically stronger Camberwell team had jumped out a six goal lead. If it wasn't for Ewan  making 11 saves, the lead would have been much bigger.

Words of encouragement and advice from Coach Blair and Defensive Coach Hammy, in the second half, Surrey Park's young charges clicked. Cruz started to master the art of face-offs, winning many against much older and stronger opponents. Our mid fields including James, Lachlan (1 goal) & Hunter started connecting, running the ball well from defence into attack, where Harrison, playing his first ever game of lacrosse scored four goals.

In the final quarter, our defenders including Alice, Julian and Blake (who played at both ends of the field) were critical in keeping the pressure on Camberwell's attack, keeping them scoreless.

The final score was SPLC 5: C'well Blitz 9, but the second half was won by Surrey. With Ewan picking up 2 votes and Cruz  picking up one vote from the game referee, there were a lot of positive signs the team can take into the rest of the season.

Goal Scorers: Harrison 4, Lachlan 1

Votes: Cruz 3, Ewan 2, Harrison 1

U/11 - Surrey Park v MCC

The under 11’s mixed team got off to an excellent start to the season with a thumping 16 – 6 win at home against MCC this Saturday. The match was played with 7 players on field for both the teams and no goalies. With only 7 players in attendance for Surrey Park the whole team played the entire 40 minutes. Leo and Henry top-scored with 4 goals apiece while Domi had the most assists with 4. Renalda scored 3 goals followed by Ashwin and Sam with 2 apiece, with Ashwin also bagging 3 votes from the MCC referee for best player on the home team.

The whole team showed some excellent passing and defensive skills and young Tom with probably the first time with a Lacrosse stick in hand did well in defense and also notched up an assist. The team was coached by Alex with Nick being the referee. Xavier from our under 15’s team also got a run on as referee for the second half. All in all a very satisfying game and a promising start to a new season.
