Summer Days Week 3: Great team work!

It was another “magic Monday” - a great summer evening welcoming the growing numbers of very keen junior lacrosse players getting into some fun skills games followed by a four team competition.

Lacrosse is sport that really gets into your genes. Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren of former players have taken to the field. The Moore family now have its 4th generation player taking to the field as well as the Stewart family with its 3rd generation and proud grandparents looking on.

We have fielded a few queries from parents wanting to know how to keep playing lacrosse after the Summer Days Comp comes to an end.

More information will follow in the coming weeks, but in short, there are two ways to continue playing Lacrosse during the winter months (Terms 2 & 3).

iPlay Comp

iPlay is an informal format of lacrosse, run from early May on Friday nights from 6 – 7pm.

Open to girls and boys in mixed format, iPlay is very similar to the Summer Days Comp with skills and drills and a short game at the end.

The kids enjoy a sausage sizzle and drink at the completion of play.

Junior Inter Club Comp

The standard of the players, new and returning, running the field at Summer Days has been very impressive and is certainly up to the mark of playing in the formal inter-club competition run by Lacrosse Victoria.

Also starting in early May, and run on Saturday mornings ~9.30am start, this is a formal competition with a full game of lacrosse, with teams composed by age.

At junior levels, teams are mixed, non-contact and played with the "softer" ball using the same rules as we use in Summer Days.

If the quality of players at Summer Days is any indication, Surrey Park's teams will be an even greater force on the field this year!

Most juniors choose to play both Friday nights and Saturday mornings.

Further details regarding winter competitions will be released soon.  In the meantime if you have any questions don’t hesitate to speak with Nick Farley our junior co-ordinator or email him at juniors@surreyparklacrosse.org.au

See you all Monday!
