2013 Game Reports

Saturday, 6th April 2013

Surrey Park returned to action this week after a bye to take on Caulfield at Caulfield Park on Saturday. With Max Pfeifer and Stephen Higgs missing Surrey were going with a changed lineup and it took them some time to settle to it. The first quarter was level and Surrey took in just a 1 goal lead into the half time rest. The defence clamped right down the in the second half, allowing just one goal and to run away with an 11-5 victory. Luke Andrewartha showed some spark in the midfield banging home 3 goals while Chris Tillotson was back to his best in the goals. Whilst it was a good solid win, the offence need to really pick up and get some momentum if they are to challenge the better sides.

Goals: Henderson 3, Andrewartha 3, Spreadborough 2, Pepperell, O’Neill, Speak.

Best: O’Neill, Ham, Tillotson

Division one found themselves also undermanned on Saturday as they lost 18-4 to former State League side Altona at Mont Albert on Saturday. The defence were very good and Corey Williams showed his class with a clear best afield performance. However, the offence need some more time to gel and were unable to penetrate the tough Altona defence. The return of more State League players and the arrival of two Americans will add to the depth and experience they need.

Goals: Farley, Gosling, Robertson, Jones

Best: Williams, Robertson, Gosling

Division two faced last year’s premiers in Williamstown on Saturday at Mont Albert and went down 18-1. Again the defence held their own as the attack struggled to find any drive to goal.

Goals: Paul

Best: Paul, Basay, Louey

The B Grade Women enjoyed a solid 14-3 win over MCC on Sunday at Mont Albert. Visiting American Melissa Boulbol showed her experience and class with 4 goals and some control of the offence while Hayley Carlson dominated with 6 goals. A very handy win that keeps them in touch with the top four.

Goals: Carlson 6, Boulbol 4, Tillotson 2, A Klepner, Goucher

The Under 12’s carried on their winning ways on Saturday with a crushing 14-7 win over Camberwell Sting. Hunter and Cruse McAuliffe continued their strong improvement sharing goals and assists while Blake Toomey threw 4 goals with 2 assists. Dylan Ing provided some great play in attack with 3 goals and Alice Goucher also contributed well with 3 goals also. A great little side who are defining the word teamwork right now.

Surrey Park’s own iPlay program continues to be a hit with dozens of primary school age kids are having a blast playing under lights on a Friday night and learning our great game. The parents also enjoy the great atmosphere watching and supporting.
