Presentation Evening

Thank you to everyone involved with organising last week’s Presentation evening. I though it went really well and the feedback I have received seem to concur.

My thanks go to everyone for being part of a great night but in particular to:

  • Joe Piccolo, father of Dominique was wonderful in providing all medallions for players and the iPlay Coaches. They look great and will be prized by everyone for years to come.
  • Amanda Thorne, Dylan Ing’s Mum for organising the Pizza’s. They were delicious and there were plenty of off them.
  • Thanks & apologies to George Bagiotos, a sensational new recruit from Wattle Park this year, I left George’s name out of the list for medallions. George was very gracious on the night of the presentation in accepting my apology. The medallion is now being engraved and George we will receive it next week.
  • Gayle Cope and Wattle Park Primary School for providing the venue for us to use, it was certainly a great venue and we appreciated being indoors on yet another cold Friday night
  • Hayley for organising the drinks on the evening
  • The Parents who helped distribute the Food & Drinks and for doing such a great job cleaning up after the function finished.

2013 Wrap Up

  1. 1.     Great support from the club

We are a small club who try very hard to do things properly, we want a good atmosphere, we want a place where our players and supporters feel safe and of course we want our players to become the type of Lacrosse player who can keep our club up at the forefront of Victorian Lacrosse.

I feel this has all happened this year at Surrey Park Lacrosse Club, and it has happened mainly because of the following people

  • Ritchie & Jacinta Toomey
  • Hayley Carlson & Josh O’Neil
  • Graeme Fox
  • Andrew Ham, Blair Pepperell, Alex Farley, JT Weber, Max Pfeifer
  •

These people have done a magnificent job in assisting me keep things going week in week out.

Great work team.

  1. 2.     ……………..And Parents also

Parents’ thank you for your support this year, so many of you helped with the canteen and BBQ, it certainly makes life easier for our club to provide the necessary elements for a successful and enjoyable junior program to operate.

I must single out the following parents who were part of a core who ensured that it all went according to plan, rain and hail or every now & then shine. They are Tania & Matt Wick, Leigh & Cathy Goucher, Mel & Mark McAuliffe, Adam Waite, Brent Dankesreither and Matt Crump, who all provided that extra support week in and week out and therefore made the season a great deal easier to run properly.

  1. 3.     But what about the players!!!!!!!!!

Well last Friday’s presentation evening was a pretty good indication of the quality of our

                 Players;

  • They listened carefully to their coaches speak about them and their teams
  • Watched them greet each other,
  • Watched them play prior to the start of the night,
  • Watched how they responded during the presentation
  • Watched how they devoured 40 Pizzas

You will have observed that they are a wonderful group of kids who are going to grow up into terrific people.

We talk about the atmosphere in the club  a great deal and we think it is the way the adults go about training or teaching the kids, but it is really that we all – parents and club officials alike, just enjoy working with these kids because they are terrific. They love their Lacrosse and they in turn are a pleasure to work with and coach.

Last Week’s Results

Under 12’s

The team played in the Sharks completion – the A Group of Teams in the
Under 12’s – the top four teams and had a run of good , very good and maybe not so good games. They drew with Willy, had a shellacking from Eltham and had a couple of good games against Camberwell, with a win and a loss. In all they did very well.

See you all next year; most of you play on in the Under 12’s and a few stalwarts move to the Under 14’s with Helmets, gloves and a contact. You will love it.

Under 14’s

The team had an 8 all draw against a much stronger MCC/Knox side. We were without Tim and it showed in the centre and on the score sheet as we struggled to get a score on the board.

And then along came Jerry, Tom A and Darcy and before you knew it we were scoring goals. In the end the 8 all draw was a fair and fitting result in what was a really good game to watch. Darcy’s goal squared it all up with a minute to go.

All the boys move up to Under 16’s next year. Some are looking at long poles and plan to get really fit. I am looking forward to seeing these guys develop even further into great senior players at Surrey

Under 15 Girls

The Girls had a tough one for their last game, Footscray at Footscray, never easy and this was no different. Abbie summed it up well when she said, “We didn’t win many but we were always competitive.” I was really pleased to see Mia on the score sheet with an assist this week, way to go Mia

The girls are now finished for Under 15’s this year but the B Grade side is in the Semi Finals this weekend, so we wish them all the very best. Most of the side stay on in Under 15’s with Alessia and Georgia moving up to the Under 17’s.

They have been a great group this year and I look forward to seeing them get better next year.

Representative Players

Our best wishes go to Tim Graham, Tayla McAuliffe, Sarah Goucher and Abbie McNamara in the September School holidays when they venture over to South Australia to the Australian Under 15 Girls and Boys Champion ships.  They are Victorian Representatives, and we are very proud of them and we wish them all the very best for the championships

In Conclusion

I hope to see a fair few of you over the next few weeks at the Parent Forum, the Finals and possibly in the supermarkets of Balwyn & Camberwell. If I don’t see you until next season, enjoy the break,

 Nick Farley
