Surrey Park defeat Williamstown 17-11 to win the VIC State League Premiership. American Evan Roberts voted MVP with 7 goals.

Surrey Park State League healed some old and deep wounds on Saturday after they took out their first Lacrosse Victoria State League premiership in 16 years. After making every finals series since and being bridesmaids in two of the previous three grand finals, they finally took the next step by beating Williamstown 17-11 in a brilliant team display of both defence and offence. The game was tight in the first half with Willy holding a slim 6-5 lead at the main break which they managed to extend this to an 8-6 advantage in the third quarter. A few of the Surrey supporters were feeling a lump in their throat, however, the players and coaches knew better. The Parkers dug deep and took back the lead to sit at 9-8 at the final change. That was when they put the foot down and simply blew the Towners away with an eight goal last quarter which was a joy to watch and filled the Surrey faithful with pride, relief and some with a different lump in the throat. US import Evan Roberts put in a performance not seen in an LV Grand Final for a long time. Not only did he dominate the faceoff giving Surrey first use of the ball every time, he also managed to scorch 7 goals in a clear best on ground performance. He took the MVP for the game and will remain in Surreys memories for a long long time. Blair Pepperell had a cracking second half slotting 4 goals and Warwick Henderson provided the experience up forward with 3 crucial goals. In defence, the whole backline was superb when it counted and Chris Tillotson was like a wall in the second half. Despite these great individual displays, the overall team effort was what brought the premiership home and didnt the boys enjoy it!

Goals: Roberts 7, Pepperell 4, Henderson 3, Higgs, O'Neill, Spreadborough.
